At APM we learned more about the procedure for developing the new EPAS. There are several issues involved in this process,
and the Continuum Committee and the PACD Committee will be working to keep you abreast of them over the next two years. All
of us need to be directly involved in the changes and make sure that the Commission on Curriculum and Educational Innovation
(COCEI) hears and responds to our comments. We are working on a mechanism to get your feedback and make sure it gets to COCEI
members. We will keep you informed, and please keep us informed as well.
Our involvement with our sister organizations
continues. At APM, I was part of a panel at the NADD meeting on unification of the profession; the discussion should lead
to further efforts to bring our profession together. We were all challenged to begin the process by establishing one Web site
for social work where each organization can be listed as part of our profession. It's an exciting idea-give me your feedback.
On March 24-25, Darla Coffey, Anne Summers, and I will be a part of a doctoral task force meeting at CSWE along with
representatives from our sister organizations. There we will discuss the purposes of doctoral education as well as funding
and demand issues. This may have implications for accreditation as well. In April, Susan Vallem, chair of the Advocacy and
Outreach Committee, and I will attend the board meetings of IASWE and ANSWER to discuss funding and political action. We will
report to you about these meetings and keep you abreast of issues.
Let me remind you again that the list of committees
and committee chairs is on the Web site (
www.bpdonline.org), and you can contact the chair of any committee if you are interested in serving. Please let Kristine Moreno (
kmoreno@cswe.org), me (
l.moore@tcu.edu), or any member of the Nominations Committee know about your interest in board positions, committee membership, or CSWE appointments.
I want as many of us as possible to have the opportunity to work within BPD to address the issues facing the profession right
now. Together we can make a difference in baccalaureate social work education. There is a lot to be done to strengthen and
unify the profession. Continue to be vocal. Let people know you are a part of BPD and speak for baccalaureate education. We
make a difference and will continue to do so. Let me hear from you on these or any issues, and thanks for all your work and
for being a part of BPD!
